Install Office Web App
Installation error:
- After starting the Office Web App iso, if you get the following error, exit the installation and run the prerequisitesinstaller.exe from the SharePoint 2010 install media.
"Windows Server Features or Role Services required by this product are not enabled. "

- After you are done with the installer, ensure you run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard
- When asked to Configure the SharePoint farm, hit Cancel
- Ensure all the services and service apps related to Office Web App are started
- Navigate to Central Administration / System Settings / Manage services on server
- Find all of the Office Web Apps specific services: Excel Calculation Services, PowerPoint Service, and Word Viewing Service. Click Start for each service
- Navigate to Central Administration / Application Management / Manage service applications
- Click New > Word View Service
- Enter the neccessary information to complete the creation of the Word Viewing Service Application. Ensure that you select create a new app pool with a service account that has access to the database or you select “SharePoint Web Services System” from the Use existing application pool option
- Once the Word Viewing Service Application is created, ensure that it is Started
- Ensure Office Web App feature is enabled at the site collection level
- From a SharePoint Site, click on Site Actions / Site Settings.
- Under Site Collection Administration, click on Site Collection Features.
- Navigate down the page until you find Office Web Apps and click on Activate
- You should be able to view a word document in the browser
- If you see the following error after loading the document in the browser: "Word Web App cannot open this document for viewing because of and unexpected error. To view this document, open it in Microsoft Word"
- Open SharePoint 2010 Management Shell, then run
- $e = Get-SPServiceApplication | where {$_.TypeName.Equals("Word Viewing Service Application")}
- $e.WordServerIsSandboxed = $false
- Wait for a few minutes, you should be able to load the document in the browser
