Visual Studio 2005 pricing and SKU plan announced
We announced the pricing and SKU plan for Visual Studio 2005 today:
- Q&A with Soma
- "The Shape (and Cost) of Visual Studio to Come" on internetnews.com
I had a chance to do some Seattle-area customer visits with Soma last week. There was a lot of interest in Visual Studio Team System, which includes:
- role-based SKU's
- Visual Studio Team Edition for Software Architects
- Visual Studio Team Edition for Software Developers
- Visual Studio Team Edition for Software Testers
- a suite that bundles all three role-based SKU's together (Visual Studio Team Suite)
- a server (Visual Studio Team Foundation Server)
Having the pricing and SKU plan disclosed will help customers evaluate the new options they will have when VS 2005 releases, and plan their future spending accordingly.

Does any of the role-based SKU's com with the server (VS Team Foundation Server)? If not does the MSDN Premium Subscription? If not when will the pricing be available for the server SKU?

For some, we can now plan our spending accordingly - with another provider.
I buy a univeral out of pocket to service my clients. Because I can't cast myself as just one roll, I have two options:
1) Up my business costs by $8,000.00 / year when the market is already tight, and still be able to demo/recommend/guide/develop on Microsoft products
2) Find another vendor of similar functionality and demo/reccommend/guild/develop on it, and take my family on vacation each year.
With the obvious choice, you have just lost me as a salesman and advocate. And I'm a loud one in my market. Was that your goal?
Please re-think the true income vs. cost of your pricing model to both yourself and your "partners".Anonymous
