Learning and getting trained to be a SQL Server DBA
Time to time I get questions asked about training and learning more about SQL Server management, maintenance, best practices. As with every Microsoft product I say they are best learnt with hands on technique, that is to say get yourself a copy of the software (of course legally/eval versions) and install it and as most things are wizard driven and well documented you can learn a lot about the product. I always suggest that when you go down this route always ensure you read the SQL Server books online as this provides context around the actions you are doing instead of just clicking Next.
Post this there are several resources and I am listing a few of my favourite ones, and I would be interested to hear back from of any others that worked particularly well for you.
