Portable Media Center Players
All the gadget sites are talking about Amazon accepting pre-orders for these portable media center (PMC) devices. These are little hard drive based players that you can view recorded tv on (as well as pictures and listen to music). Both players offered at Amazon have 20GB of storage and cost five hundred bucks. You need an XP machine with a tv tuner or Windows Media Center PC to get recorded shows on there with the default software. I would have loved a device like this as a kid. Imagine those long road trips when you have 80 hours of cartoons to get you through.
I am thinking it's probably time to trade in that trusty 1994 VCR for a media center pc and get one of these. So cool.

“The PMC tries to be good, but it's so full of compromises it winds up being worse than Bill Gates doing the white-boy rap with Eminem.”Anonymous
