MSN's Tabbed Browsing

In a future post I will talk about some of the challenges relating to building Tabbed Browsing as an add-on to IE.

The MSN team has taken on this challenge, and their latest toolbar adds tabbed browsing to "older" versions of IE. I haven't used this toolbar enough to comment on the functionality, but I've seen some confusion in the community and I want to clarify that this is a separate effort from IE7.

Hi, when you say "older" versions of IE, how far back do you think it will go (to which version)? Would this addition make IE more memory hungry and slower to load?

I heard it works on 5.5 and 6.0, but I'm not 100% sure. Also, all add-ons affect IE's working set to some extent, but I haven't measured the impact of the MSN toolbar.

A better place to ask about this toolbar is on the MSN Search's team blog: http://blogs.msdn.com/msnsearch

I am a new media web developer, and I must say that working with IE at this point is absolutely painful . Why does IE not use its own standards as describe by msdn? Ive been fighting with the fact that every other browser uses proper CSS standards except for internet explorer for the last few weeks, but this is sort of the last straw for me. I have been working around the idea that <INPUT type="image" would call a SUBMIT upon clicking as it is describe. Instead, I work for hours only to find that Internet Explorer doesnt even comply to this (of course, firefox does)

it wouldnt be such an issue except that Internet Explorer is what everyone uses because it comes on their machine! Please ease my mind by telling me that IE7 will be more complient with CSS and w3c standards :(
