The Make Art Button
So apparently, the Game Developers Conference in San Jose thought my idea for a presentation called "The Make Art Button: batches, actions and scripts", would be interesting. I tend to agree with them, but I may be just a little bit biased. So now I actually have to prepare a presentation and speak at the conference. Aside from the completely unsexy nature of my topic (I mean, are they really going to come see me talk about a bunch of ways to make your art pipeline twice as fast when they can see Will Wright talk about the new developments in Spore), I think it should be pretty fun. Maybe I can get some more artists using Maxscript (or Mel Script) and Photoshop actions, rather than developing serious carpal-tunnel syndrome (now if only we could automate Painfully Slow Manualgen. And yes, we do actually use that tool in house, and yes, we do have a budget set aside for a yearly wrist fatigue retreat.) So I guess this is just another stop along the way in my own personal crusade to bring artists into the 20th century.

LOL ... Game Developers Conference ... Don't tell Hal. Haven't you seen that he comments: "...my responses have softened over the years, from 'It's NOT a game!' to 'It's not just a game!', to 'It's not strictly a game, unless of course you want it to be.'"
Good luck with the presentation ... sounds like it would be quite interesting indeed. I too wish there were some things that could be automated when designing aircraft, but then again, that'd take some of the fun out of it, right?? :-)
