Network Offload and Optimization Technologies in Windows Server 2016

Senior Microsoft PM Don Stanwyck has authored a great new Networking document that is now available for download in Word format from TechNet Gallery:

Network Offload and Optimization Technologies in Windows Server 2016

This document provides information about Network Offload and Optimization technologies that are included in Windows Server 2016, and discusses how these features help make networking more efficient.

These technologies include Software Only (SO) features like Access Control Lists (ACLs), Software Defined Networking ACLs, NIC Teaming, Switch Embedded Teaming, and software virtual Receive Side Scaling, as well as Software/Hardware (SH) integrated features (Converged NIC, IPsec Task Offload, PacketDirect, and more); and Hardware Only (HO) features like Address Checksum Offload, Interrupt Moderation, Jumbo Frames, and more.

SO features are available in all hardware architectures without regard to NIC speed or NIC capabilities, while SH and HO features are available if the installed NIC supports them.

For more information and to download the doc, see Network Offload and Optimization Technologies in Windows Server 2016.
