Get-DnsServerRootHint

Gets root hints on a DNS server.

Syntax

Get-DnsServerRootHint
   [-ComputerName <String>]
   [-CimSession <CimSession[]>]
   [-ThrottleLimit <Int32>]
   [-AsJob]
   [<CommonParameters>]

Description

The Get-DnsServerRootHint cmdlet gets Domain Name System (DNS) root hints on a DNS server.

Examples

Example 1: Get root hints for a DNS server

PS C:\> Get-DnsServerRootHint

This command gets root hints for the local DNS server.

Example 2: Get root hints by using a resource record

PS C:\> Get-DnsServerRootHint | Where-Object {$_.NameServer.RecordData.NameServer -eq "H.Root-Servers.net."}

In this example, the Get-DnsServerRootHint cmdlet gets a list of all root hints on the local DNS server. The command then passes that collection to the Where-Object cmdlet by using the pipeline operator.

Where-Object filters the resource record to get the root hint for the DNS server that has the name H.Root-Servers.net.

Parameters

-AsJob

Runs the cmdlet as a background job. Use this parameter to run commands that take a long time to complete.

The cmdlet immediately returns an object that represents the job and then displays the command prompt. You can continue to work in the session while the job completes. To manage the job, use the *-Job cmdlets. To get the job results, use the Receive-Job cmdlet.

For more information about Windows PowerShell background jobs, see about_Jobs.

The throttle limit applies only to the current cmdlet, not to the session or to the computer.
