Using Performance Monitor

After you have identified application code defects and have fixed them, you can use Performance Monitor to fine-tune your application. This tool provides access to a wide variety of performance counters that can help you understand where your application is spending its time.

To start Performance Monitor on Microsoft Windows Server 2003

  • On the Start menu, click Administrative Tools, and then select Performance.

Alternatively, you can start Performance Monitor on the Start menu. On the Start menu, click Administrative Tools, and then select Performance.

To start Performance Monitor on Microsoft Windows XP

  1. On the Start menu, click Control Panel.

  2. In Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, and then select Performance.

Alternatively, you can start Performance Monitor on either operating system.

To start Performance Monitor on either operating system

  1. On the Start menu, click Run.

  2. In the Run dialog box, type perfmon, and then click OK.
