Note About Audio and Remote Desktop

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

If you use Remote Desktop to access a Speech Server application that is running in the Visual Studio debugger, you will not be able to hear any of the application's prompts even though other sounds are played normally. The reason for this is that audio played by the debugger across a remote desktop is disabled. The speech server media stack does not behave in the same way as Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) audio, which can lead to unpredictable audio results.
