Speech Server Administration Management Tools

You can configure and manage Speech Server components using the following tools:

  • Speech Server Administrator console
  • Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) scripts

Speech Server Administrator Console

The Speech Server Administrator console is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in and the primary administration tool for Speech Server. It provides a graphical interface for managing the configurable settings of Speech Server components and monitoring the status of those components. The Speech Server Administrator console facilitates viewing Speech Server components as deployment groups and managing the components in that group in a consistent manner.

Use the Speech Server Administrator console to view and manage Speech Server deployment groups containing:

  • Computers (servers) running the Speech Server service.
  • Speech Server applications.
  • Trusted SIP peers (SIP peers with trusted relationships with computers running Speech Server in the group).

The Speech Server Administrator console can be installed on the computer running the Speech Server service or separately on another computer. For more information about installing the Administrator console separately, see How to: Install Administrative Tools.

Note

You cannot use the Speech Server Administrator console to manage and configure Speech Server that is installed on a computer running Windows XP. Only Speech Server installed on Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or later can be managed with the Administrator console.

WMI Scripts

With the standardized WMI programming interface, you can manage computers running Speech Server, voice response applications, and SIP peers. Scripts, as well as compiled programs, can use WMI to access information about these Speech Server resources on the local computer or remotely.

Everything you can do with the Speech Server Administrator console can also be done using WMI scripts. The Speech Server Administrator console provides a standard and easy method for viewing and modifying configurable settings. However, there are settings that are not exposed in the Speech Server Administrator console and can only be accessed using WMI. If you need to access these settings or modify any of the settings in a way that cannot be achieved using the Speech Server Administrator console, you might want to use a WMI script.
