Media Communications Security

This content is no longer actively maintained. It is provided as is, for anyone who may still be using these technologies, with no warranties or claims of accuracy with regard to the most recent product version or service release.

By default, audio communications between Speech Server and trusted SIP peers is not encrypted and can be vulnerable to eavesdropping. To make media traffic more secure, configure Speech Server to use Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP). When enabled, Speech Server only uses Secure RTP for connections between application instances and trusted SIP peers. You specify to use Secure RTP for each application. For more information, see How to: Configure an Application for Secure RTP Communications.

Note

You cannot use Secure RTP with Telephony Interface Manager Connector (TIMC). For more information, see TIMC Security.
