About This Guide

This guide provides instructions for setting up Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) on a computer running Windows Server® 2012 R2 operating system. It explains how to install and configure the software that is required for setting up a first federation server (running AD FS software) in a federation server farm or how to join a federation server to an existing farm.

What this guide does not provide

This guide does not provide instructions for setting up and configuring the following:

  1. An Active Directory domain

    Note

    For AD FS to function, each computer that functions as a federation server must be joined to an Active Directory domain.

  2. Setting up AD FS in a production environment
