Visual Studio User Interface Design Guidelines

A consistent, predictable user interface (UI) provides a seamless user experience, shortens learning curves, and lowers the total cost of ownership. Although Visual Studio enables many kinds of UI design, we recommend that you follow a set of UI design guidelines as you develop your VSPackages.

You can use the same guidelines that Microsoft used to develop this version of Visual Studio. To download the guidelines, see Visual Studio User Interface Guidelines on the MSDN Code Gallery Web site.

Note

These guidelines address UI design standards for Visual Studio and do not represent a comprehensive UI design reference. For information about Windows UI design, see Windows User Experience Interaction Guidelines on the MSDN Web site.
