Shut down the system

Description

This security setting determines which users who are logged on locally to the computer can shut down the operating system using the Shut Down command. Misuse of this user right can result in a denial of service.

Default:

  • Workstations: Administrators, Backup Operators, Power Users, Users.

  • Servers: Administrators, Backup Operators, Power Users.

  • Domain controllers: Administrators, Backup Operators, Server Operators, Print Operators.

Configuring this security setting

You can configure this security setting by opening the appropriate policy and expanding the console tree as such: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\
