Tracking disk space use

You can specify a disk quota limit without denying users further disk space use. This is useful when you do not want to deny users access to a volume, but want to track disk space use on a per-user basis. You can also specify whether to log an event when users exceed either their quota warning level or their quota limit. Tracking disk space use is helpful if you want to:

  • Keep historical records of disk space use.

  • Show additional disk space needs.

  • Show distribution of disk space on a per-user basis.

  • Notify users when they exceed their allotted disk space.

For instructions on documenting disk space use, see Create quota reports.
