Step Reference

Verify that you are logged on as a member of the Backup Operators group or Administrators group.

Identify members of a local group

Verify that you can connect to all shared folders on other computers that need to be restored.

 

Insert the required tape(s) into the tape drive or library.

 

If you are restoring the System State to a running domain controller, start the server in Directory Services Restore Mode.

Follow the steps in Start the computer in Safe Mode, and then click Directory Services Restore Mode.

To restore files manually, click the Restore and Manage Media tab to select files to restore or use the Backup or Restore Wizard.

Restore files from a file or a tape

If you are restoring an Encrypted File System (EFS) on a system where the private key for the encrypted data is somehow inaccessible (for example, on a computer that is not part of a network) or is corrupted or lost, import the designated recovery agent's EFS private key (the PKCS #12 file).
