Configure a connection to a remote network

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To configure a connection to a remote network

  1. Open Network Connections.

  2. Right-click the dial-up connection that you want to configure, and then click Properties.

  3. Do one or more of the following:

    • To configure dialing devices, phone numbers, host address, country/region codes, or dialing rules, click the General tab.

    • To configure dialing and redialing options, multilink configuration, or X.25 parameters, click the Options tab.

    • To configure identity authentication, data encryption, or terminal window and scripting options, click the Security tab.

    • To configure the remote access server and protocols used for this connection, click the Networking tab.

    • To enable or disable Internet Connection Firewall, Windows Firewall, Internet Connection Sharing, and on-demand dialing, click the Advanced tab. For more information, see Related Topics.

Notes

  • To open Network Connections, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections.

  • Windows Firewall is not included in the original release of the Windows Server 2003 operating systems.

  • Internet Connection Firewall is included only in the original releases of Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, and Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition.

  • Internet Connection Sharing and Network Bridge are not included in Windows Server 2003, Web Edition; Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition; and the Itanium-based versions of the original release of the Windows Server 2003 operating systems.

  • Depending on the type of connection you are configuring, different options appear in the properties dialog box.

  • For more information about a specific item on a tab, right-click the item, and then click What's This?.
