Configure the Telnet Terminal Type
Applies To: Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Vista
You can use this procedure to configure the terminal type emulated by your Telnet client.
The default Windows Telnet terminal type is ANSI. Other valid terminal types are VT52, VT100, and VTNT.
Any user account can be used to complete this procedure.
Configuring the Telnet terminal type
Perform the following procedures:
To display the current Telnet terminal type
To change the Telnet terminal type
To display the current Telnet terminal type
On the Telnet client, switch to command mode. See Switch Between Session Mode and Command Mode.
At the Microsoft Telnet> command prompt, type d, and then press ENTER.
The output includes text similar to the following:
Preferred term type is type
To change the Telnet terminal type
On the Telnet client, switch to command mode. See Switch Between Session Mode and Command Mode.
At the Microsoft Telnet> command prompt, type set term type, and then press ENTER. Type must be one of the following: vt100, vt52, ansi, or vtnt.
The output confirms your selection by displaying your setting.
