XmlWriterSettings.CheckCharacters Property

Microsoft Silverlight will reach end of support after October 2021. Learn more.

Gets or sets a value indicating whether to do character checking.

Namespace:  System.Xml
Assembly:  System.Xml (in System.Xml.dll)

Syntax

'Declaration
Public Property CheckCharacters As Boolean
public bool CheckCharacters { get; set; }

Property Value

Type: System.Boolean
true to do character checking; otherwise false. The default is true.

Remarks

If the XmlWriter object supports character checking, it throws an exception if any characters are outside the range of legal XML characters. Section 2.2 of the W3C XML 1.0 recommendation specifies the range of legal XML characters (http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml\#charsets).

NoteNote:

Character checking does not include checking for illegal characters in XML names, nor does it include checking that all XML names are valid. These checks are part of conformance checking and are always performed.
