Cross-reference to an object in a different document

Good morning,

I would need to create in Word a cross-reference to an object (figure, table ...) that is in a different word document, in a way that by clicking on it you are redirected to such specific document. Also, it should update if the other document is modified. How do I do it?

This forum is a user-to-user support forum. My name is Charles and I am a fellow user with decades of experience using Microsoft Word. I have written extensively on using Word and have authored help articles on the Microsoft site.

You can do this by bookmarking the object you want to include in the original document and using an IncludeText or IncludePicture field linked to that bookmark. You would do this as a link.

Insert > Object > Text from File

When you get the dialog box to pick the file and have the file selected, click on the Range button and type in the bookmark name. Then drop down the Insert button to find Insert as Link.
