Important notes regarding the App-V 5.0 SP2 update

ImportantPlease be aware that Microsoft Application Virtualization 5.0 Service Pack 2 (App-V 5.0 SP2) does not include a new version of the App-V Server. This means that currently the most recent version of the App-V 5.0 Server component is App-V 5.0 SP1. In addition, please make note of the following regarding App-V 5.0 SP2 clients:

- If you deploy App-V 5.0 SP2 clients running on Windows 8.1 in your environment and plan to manage the clients using the App-V infrastructure you must install the following App-V 5.0 SP1 Server hotfix:

KB2897087 - Hotfix Package 2 for Microsoft Application Virtualization 5.0 Service Pack 1 (https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2897087)

- If you are running and managing App-V 5.0 SP2 clients on Windows 8.1 and using any of the following methods then no additional update is required:

  • Standalone mode
  • Configuration Manager
  • Third party ESD

The App-V 5.0 SP2 client is fully compatible with Windows 8.1 for all methods of deployment.

Is there an App-V 5.0 SP2 for RDS x64? It seems there's only a x86 of SP2 download available through MSDN?

I think the x64 version is included in the x86 download on MSDN, at least I was able to update my Sp2 beta x64 client with this download. Not verry clear I agree

We have 8.1 on machines that cannot load the profile service if app-v 5 sp2 is loaded. They are fine if you have a profile on the machine before the app-v client refreshes, after that no new users can login. Removing app-v removes the issue. This started occurring after this patch is applied to the machine. (KB2933809) we are testing further to see if the KB update is related directly or not. In the mean time we are very nervous about App-v 5 SP2 Windows 8.1 compatibility.
