Update for RDCMan

Anyone who is familiar with RDCMan will be thrilled to hear that there is an updated version available!

For those of you who are new to RDCMan – it is a tool that allows you to easily manage multiple remote desktop sessions:

The updated version introduces a number of new features.  One of which is the ability to connect directly to virtual machines through Hyper-V.  This is very cool.

You can download the latest version from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44989

Cheers,
Ben

Got a quick rundown on the "Virtual machine connect-to-console support" feature? I cannot seem to determine the magic configuration.

Does this version finally support 64-bit native, or have better memory management? The last public version (2.2) would fail to connect/crash when you tried to open more than 8-10 sessions at once unless you patched the EXE to run in 64-bit native instead of 32-bit WoW.

It's in the 'help' for the application.  I've gotten it to work, but not when the host connection is through a gateway.  :( Server Settings This page only appears for the properties of a server. It contains options for the server name, its display name, parent nesting, and a comment. SCVMM virtual machines can be connected to via RDP into the host using the VM console connect option. Be sure to enter the VM host name as the server name. To determine the id corresponding to the VM, open a PowerShell window as Administrator and run the command: get-vm | ft Name,Id.

Oh yeah baby, I use this app every day and it was becoming unstable. Installed it and it's already running better. Thanks for the update!

"SCVMM virtual machines can be connected to via RDP into the host using the VM console connect option" That is an odd way to phrase it.

Nice update, wish it included the Enhanced Session host like functionality when connecting directly to virtual machines through Hyper-V.

You can circumvent the IPv6 connection problem stated in other posts by using an entry in your hosts file. I successfully tested this.

Only thing what is better in 2.7 version (compare to 2.2) is how the application show active session... Fail's: Full screen window in the main display will not go to full screen, It only go to maximized window. In other words my desktop startmenu bar is always showing and RDP window has scrollbars (and session startmenu bar below the window). Also the “full screen” window goes over the display to secondary display.  Only way to work around the problem is to undock the session on then open it to fullscreen but then manage is poor, also when I open it to full screen connection bar is missing (now days)… I can say to all who has used the old 2.2 version. take a backup of the xml file before you test this version. I didn't take... And I can't use newer version XML in the old version of the application... Now I wonder do I bother to do everything once more (over 200 RDP connections).. :-S

Please bring back the option to view the password. In version 2.2 there was a checkbox and you could see the actual password as string text. This option is gone in version 2.7 and it was very helpful to have.

Hi Ben, sorry for the late comment ;) and thanks for the update to my favourite rdp management tool. One oddity I've noticed under Win 10 build 10240 - fullscreen doesn't seem to properly fullscreen. The Win10 task bar is still visible and I get vertical scroll bars on the RDP window.

A mechanism to sync the config between client computers would be nice. Or at least encrypt the passwords with a master password so the same file could be used both at work and at home.

Does anybody know if Dynamic Virtual Channels are supported? I've written a DVC client dll which works fine with the standalone RDC client but is not loaded by RDCMan.

Thanks for the update. It seems a lot more stable now. Previous version often crashed especially with lots of desktops/thumbnails open (20+) To re-enable thumbnail interaction: tools - general - default group settings - display settings - allow thumbnail session interaction I searched a LONG time for that one...

I have ongoing 'freeze' situations with RDCMan 2.7 ... ~2000 servers in the RDG file (yeah; I know) ... is there a new version on the way? Any modifications possible to increase memory, etc. ?

This is a great update, but I really wish it could connect to VM guests in Hyper-V with Enhanced Session!

The easy solution is to go back to version 2.2 ..

Broken feature, in 2.2 say you had a group of 4 pc connected docked and on screen, you we able to click through to the desktop and dialogue boxes for each of the 4 pc's, or even move around objects in each pc.as it stands now in 2.7 you have to select the computer from the left tree menu before you can click though or move object, reducing productivity.

Enable "Allow thumbnail session interaction" in the display config for you group (or wherever you inherit from)
