L'attributo Type è un attributo facoltativo che identifica le informazioni sul tipo sulla forma di testo del contenuto crittografato. Sebbene facoltativo, si tratta di un attributo importante e viene usato nell'elaborazione obbligatoria descritta in Regole di elaborazione: Decrittografia (sezione 4.2) della specifica di sintassi e elaborazione della crittografia XML (https://www.w3.org/TR/xmlenc-core/). Se l'elemento <EncryptedData> contiene dati di tipo 'element' o elemento 'content'e sostituisce tali dati in un documento XML, è consigliabile specificare l'attributo Type . Senza queste informazioni, l'applicazione che tenta di decrittografare le informazioni non sarà in grado di ripristinare automaticamente il documento XML nel formato di testo originale.
