Associazione di dati SQL a un controllo DataList

Mentre il controllo Repeater è un iteratore di utilizzo generale, il controllo DataList fornisce funzionalità aggiuntive specifiche per il controllo del layout dell'elenco. A differenza di Repeater, DataList esegue il rendering delle righe e delle celle di tabella circostanti intorno agli elementi definiti dai template, in modo da consentire un layout e una formattazione di livello migliore. DataList supporta ad esempio le proprietà RepeatColumns e RepeatDirection, che consentono di specificare il numero di colonne e la direzione (verticale oppure orizzontale) in cui eseguire il rendering degli elementi di dati. In DataList sono inoltre supportati attributi relativi allo stile, quali la dimensione e il nome del tipo di carattere.

Nell'esempio seguente viene mostrato come accedere a un database SQL contenente titoli di libri e altre informazioni e come visualizzare i dati mediante un controllo DataList. Per visualizzare l'esecuzione di un esempio simile, eseguire l'esempio DataList2.aspx in Guide rapide di ASP.NET.
