Procedura: utilizzare la protezione dati
.NET Framework fornisce l'accesso all'API di protezione dati (DPAPI), che consente di crittografare i dati utilizzando le informazioni dell'account utente o del computer corrente. Grazie a DPAPI è possibile ovviare ai problemi connessi alla generazione e all'archiviazione in modo esplicito di una chiave crittografica.
Utilizzare la classe ProtectedMemory per crittografare una matrice di byte in memoria. Questa funzionalità, disponibile in Microsoft Windows XP e nei sistemi operativi successivi, consente di specificare che la memoria crittografata dal processo corrente può essere decrittografata esclusivamente dal processo corrente, da tutti i processo oppure dallo stesso contesto utente. Per una descrizione dettagliata delle opzioni di ProtectedMemory, vedere l'enumerazione MemoryProtectionScope.
Utilizzare la classe ProtectedData per crittografare una copia di una matrice di byte. Questa funzionalità, disponibile in Microsoft Windows XP e nei sistemi operativi successivi, consente di specificare che i dati crittografati dall'account utente corrente possono essere decrittografati esclusivamente dallo stesso account utente oppure da un qualsiasi account del computer. Per crittografare dati in memoria tramite la protezione dei dati

Nell'esempio di codice riportato di seguito vengono illustrate due forme di crittografia e decrittografia. Viene dapprima crittografata e decrittografata una matrice di byte in memoria. Viene quindi crittografata una copia di una matrice di byte, successivamente salvata in un file. I dati vengono infine ricaricati dal file e decrittografati.
