Using files created with earlier versions of MMC with MMC 2.0
MMC 2.0 reads consoles created with older versions of MMC.
Methods of saving files created in older versions of MMC include the following:
If you work in MMC 2.0 authoring mode with a file created in an earlier version of MMC, you can save the file only in MMC 2.0.
You can work with an MMC 1.2 file in MMC 2.0 in any of the user modes.
In user modes, MMC 2.0 saves console changes from an earlier version in the new format into the user's profile directory. That converted file has all of the user's changes, such as window resizing. Additionally, the original console (from the earlier version of MMC) remains intact in its original format. However, when converted files are saved, the earlier format cannot be restored.
When you open a console from an earlier MMC version, MMC 2.0 opens it with the selected modified settings. However, if you copy this modified console to another computer, or delete the settings through the MMC menu File/Options, you will lose these modifications.
