Respond to a Stop error message

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To respond to a Stop error message

  • View the Stop error message information remotely, and use !Special Administration Console (!SAC) to restart the remote computer. Viewing the kernel log with the D command can help to determine the cause of the error, especially if the Stop error message appeared during the startup process.

Notes

  • To display !SAC, press ENTER when viewing the Stop screen.

  • You can manually generate a Stop error message and force a memory dump file to be created by using the SAC crashdump command. To do so, however, you must have crash dump enabled.

Information about functional differences

  • Your server might function differently based on the version and edition of the operating system that is installed, your account permissions, and your menu settings. For more information, see Viewing Help on the Web.
