Just what is SMSGR

As with anything Microsoft, we’ve got loads of acronyms. Let’s break down SMSGR and introduce you to who we are and what we do.

First off SMSG is one of the core groups at Microsoft and stands for “Sales, Marketing, Services, IT & Operations Group”. Shortened you can get Sales Marketing and Services Group (IT & Operations are actually part of the Services division). The R on the end is the Readiness team – SMSGR – and we’re part of the Operations division. So, what does the R actually do when you mix it with the SMSG? It allows us to provide training to the Microsoft field as a whole – helping the company get Ready. What kind of training? All sorts – everything from professional skills to corporate initiatives to basic courses every company offers to their employees.

According to the careers website here’s what we do:

  • Readiness trains and develops sales, marketing, and services employees to equip them with the skills they need to connect with customers and advance their own careers.

In short, we make it happen. We enable people to do their jobs better with more precision and skill. We ready the field.

So, in a nutshell, SMSGR is a training and readiness team inside of Microsoft. Do you have a training team? How do you as an employee get ready? What tools do you have?

Until next time!
