From GotDotNet to MSDN

Hello All,

My name is Neetu Rajpal and I am a Program Manager in the XML Team. In this post, I want to let you know of a few additions to the XML Downloads section.

The Tools and Utilities in the XML Downloads section has always pointed to our sister GotDotNet site. In an effort to consolidate all XML related information on MSDN, we have now moved the following downloads from GotDotNet to MSDN directly. Below is a short description of what these utilities do.

XSD Object Code Generator
This utility builds C# and VB.NET data structures from an XSD schema that can serialize and de-serialize to XML and other formats. The code generated is an enhanced .NET object library that greatly simplifies working with XSD data structures and XML.

XML Diff and Patch
This utility can be used to identify the differences between two XML documents. You can also use the identified differences (saved in a diffgram) to patch one of the documents. The download includes binaries, source code, samples and documentation.

XSD Inference
This utility can be used to infer an XSD from an instance XML file. The download includes binaries, source code, samples and documentation.

    It would be very helpful if the XML Developer Center Code Samples page had links to .NET 2, VS 2005 XML Code

    Samples.  Also, note the technology version demonstrated by each sample clearly on the Code Samples Page.

    As far as I can tell from reviewing the Code Samples Page, none of the samples have been updated for .NET 2.0.  I'm

    sure the Microsoft site has 2.0 XML code samples, but they are not listed on the XML Developer Center portal.  The XML Portal is currently highlighting such a sample on its main page ("XML for Fun: Building an XSL Transform Tool"), but there is no link on the Code Samples Page to help users find it later once it migrates away.

    Microsoft does a great job of generating content, but a poor job of indexing/cataloging it so that users can find

    relevant content quickly.  The Developer Centers could play a great role in addressing this serious issue.

    I agree with Kevin, there is a need to show samples for VS2005. In particular, I would like to see some recent information on using SAX or SAX-equivalent methods to read a large XML file.
