What should I write in my subject details?

Show them what you've got

Your subject details appear within search results, as well as, at the top of your profile. This is the first thing that students will read about you so use it as a way to grab their attention and get them excited to take lessons with you.

Below are some helpful templates you can use, and tips if you want to write your own.

TEMPLATE 1

I've been teaching [subject] for [#] years and my students have gone on to [student accomplishments]. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to [beginning goal] and as time goes on you'll be able to [intermediate goal].  I specialize in [specialty, style], typically use [book names] books, and have the following tools available for your lessons: [equipment list]. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

Example:

"I've been teaching Spanish for 7 years and my students have gone on to develop a deep love of Spanish culture, study abroad in Latin America, and more! Within the first few lessons, you'll start speaking simple sentences and as time goes on, you'll be able to conjugate like a pro! I also specialize in Spanish literature, typically use the Living Language books, and have the following tools available for your lessons: recording equipment, worksheets, textbooks, and more.  I love working with students of all experience levels and espero contar con su presencia!"

TEMPLATE 2

Experienced [subject] teacher of [#] years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of [subject] skills. I specialize in [specialty, style], typically use [book names] books, and also have the following tools available to use during lessons: [equipment list].  

Example:

"Experienced guitar teacher of 30 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of classical guitar skills. I specialize in rock, blues, and heavy metal, typically use Hal Leonard books, and also have the following tools available to use during lessons: sound recording equipment, sheet music, and more.  Let's turn the amp to 11 and rock and roll!"

Don't want to use a template? Get creative!

Things to include:

  • Brief description of your specialties (e.g. if your main subject is "singing," consider including your experience with broadway singing, belting, gesture, and more)
  • How long you've been teaching and some student success stories
  • Books that you typically have your students use
  • A list of equipment or instruments you have available to enhance lessons
  • Some standard milestones for the type of student you're attracting (e.g. "most students see a full letter grade improvement within the first two months")
  • Major awards or accomplishments that add to your credibility as a great teacher (e.g. "Featured in Rolling Stone as the lead guitarist to watch...")
