Hello Gyuchae,
Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Q&A Forum regarding the security warning in Excel: “Microsoft has blocked the execution of macros because the source of this file cannot be trusted.”
I understand how disruptive this can be, especially when you need to work with macro-enabled files.
Microsoft introduced enhanced security in Office to protect users from potentially harmful macros, especially in files downloaded from the internet or received via email. As a result, macros are blocked by default unless the file’s source is explicitly trusted.
How to Remove the Warning and Enable Macros (If You Trust the File):
- Unblock the File in Windows:
- Close Excel.
- In File Explorer, right-click the Excel file and select Properties.
- In the General tab, look for an Unblock checkbox near the bottom. If present, check it, then click Apply and OK.
- Reopen the file in Excel. The warning should disappear.
- Add the File Location as a Trusted Location in Excel:
- Open Excel and go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings.
- Select Trusted Locations and click Add new location.
- Add the folder where your file is stored (e.g., a folder on your desktop).
- Move your Excel file into this folder and reopen it. Macros should now run without warnings.
- Check Macro Settings:
- In the Trust Center Settings, go to Macro Settings.
- Ensure that “Disable all macros with notification” is selected. This allows you to enable macros for trusted files as needed.
- If the File Is from a Cloud Service (e.g., Box, OneDrive):
- Download the file to your local drive before unblocking or trusting it, as cloud-synced files may not show the Unblock option.
Important: Only enable macros for files from sources you trust. Macros can contain code that may harm your computer or compromise your data.
