The message “User login is required to perform this operation” or similar prompts usually appear when:

The file is rights-managed or protected by your organization’s security policies.

It’s stored in a location like OneDrive or SharePoint that requires you to be signed in with the correct account.

Your current session doesn’t have the necessary permissions to modify or save the file.

When PowerPoint can’t confirm your credentials, it pauses the save process, which can look like a freezer.

 

What you can do

Check your sign-in status

Go to File → Account in PowerPoint and confirm you’re signed in with the correct Microsoft account or organizational account.

Verify permissions

If the file came from work or school, make sure you have edit rights. Contact the person who shared the file or your admin if needed.

Remove or adjust protection

If you own the file, go to File → Info → Protect Presentation and check if Restrict Access or Encrypt with Password is enabled.

Save a copy locally

Try File → Save As → This PC to create a new copy without restrictions (if allowed).
