It’s one thing to have one's name associated with Mark Russinovich, but quite another to be quoted by Raymond Chen.  I’m absolutely thrilled that Raymond quoted me in his Windows Confidential column in this month’s TechNet Magazine.  This month’s column came about from internal email discussions about customers’ requests for official published Microsoft documentation about every ill-conceived idea they could possibly consider.  Of course, such a library wouldn’t be feasible or desirable.  Here's the key quote:

As Aaron explained it, "There are an infinite number of places where you can choose between doing the smart thing and the dumb thing, but only a finite number of white papers documenting those instances."

For those who aren't aware, Raymond is a very long time developer on the Windows team who has been proactively involved in helping developers in online public forums since long before the word "blog" was invented.  In addition to his Windows Confidential column, he blogs every weekday at https://blogs.msdn.com/b/oldnewthing and is the author of The Old New Thing (2007, Addison Wesley), an excellent collection of his blog postings.

    Wow, not only did Raymond Chen quote you, he practically FEATURED you in half the content of his column! That's great! I love "The Old New Thing" blog, and for some reason, never realized who the author of it was. Thank you for posting this. I would have never had a chance to read the entire, well, hilarious post over on Windows Confidential if you hadn't. P.S. I found my way here from a great April 2011 article about data security controls windowsteamblog.com/.../data-data-everywhere-not-a-control-to-waste.aspx  which also mentioned you, regarding the importance of running applications without admin privileges. That's also an Old New Thing recurrent theme, I believe, although the Security & Compliance post explicitly mentioned and linked to you :)
