[OT] Birthday post
Ooops, it has been over a month since my last post. Time flies when you are too busy to sleep :)
So, what have I been up to lately?
1. BlogWave v.next is stuck at 99.5% complete, and has been for
several weeks. There are no big obvious bugs left, but I'm pretty sure
there are some subtle ones which (so far) I haven't been able to find.
If anyone is interested, drop me a note and I'll email you a private
drop.
2. Work (#1) - I just completed a case management productivity demo
application. It demonstrates how our technologies can come together to
provide impressive productivity boosts to mobile IW 'field workers' (ie
people who work outside of an office). It was pretty fun since it
ties in may of the coolest products out there - Tablets, Web Services,
Infopath, MapPoint and custom Winforms development. MapPoint is
insanely easy to work with from managed code (be sure to do it using
VB.NET though), and the results are visually impressive. The demo
roughly follows the following scenario:
Open the application and sync up with [INSERT LEGACY APP / CRM / ERP HERE] before leaving the office network.
When offline and on the road ,you can view all your assigned work items (cases, claims, orders, whatever) both in a standard application view and also in a geomapped MapPoint view.
Use MapPoint + GPS to plan schedules, distances, driving routes
& directions. MapPoint is also great for displaying any layered geo
data which you might need, such as crime rates, population density,
insurance premiums, etc.Use Tablet PC /w digital ink, a digital camera, Infopath forms
and other various gadgets to gather whatever information you came out
forRinse & Repeat until returning to the office
Once back online, sync up with the central [WHATEVER] application once again to upload all the data you gathered in the field, and pull down anything new from the server.
3. Work (#2) - I'm assisting a $30B/year company in designing an
architecture framework for their next generation of systems. Been
digging into EDRA, FABRIQ and lots of .Net 2.0 related stuff.
Without a doubt, 2005 is *the* most interesting time to be doing
architecture since way back when the first .Net betas were released.
4. Work (#3) - Despite 2 & 3, I also have 2 Sharepoint gigs which
I'm still engaged in. Sharepoint is cool, but AppPlatCore
architecture is cooler, at least until Sharepoint v3 comes out ;)
5. Rory owes me a keyboard - I just spewed Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr
Pepper all over my keyboard (through my nose no less) because of his Episode 3 review - rotfl suprised ewoks...
6. And last but not least, Happy Birthday to me! (5/23/1972)
