Visio Books and Resources
If you’re new to Visio, check out the Step-by-Step with Visio 2003 book. It provides an introduction to the product and comes with a CD with exercises. If you’re somewhat familiar with Visio but interested in getting more out of the product, the Visio 2003 Inside Out book is pretty good. It’s targeted at the power user and has some good information in it. The Visio Office Online site also has great content like templates and user tips, provided by the Visio team and partners. We also have pretty active end user newsgroup if you have questions.
If you’re new to Visio development, start with the Developing Microsoft Visio Solutions book, which was produced by the Visio team for Visio 2002. There are print copies still available but it’s also freely available online at MSDN. Another good Visio development book is Graham Wideman’s Survival Guide to Visio 2003. The Visio team also ships a Visio 2002 SDK and Visio 2003 SDK – the SDKs have technical articles, developer tools, and as well as a ton of sample code written to the product team’s best practices. I always point new developers to the Visio MSDN web site and the Visio developer newsgroup to get questions answered, too.
