Today is Safer Internet Day – Do 1 Thing. Information, resources, and more.
Over the years, I have shared several tips on how to help protect yourself and your online privacy here on my blog, so with today, February 11, 2014, being Safer Internet Day, I wanted to once again make you aware of some information and resources you can use. Microsoft is a long-standing supporter of Safer Internet Day (SID), a global campaign that encourages safer and more responsible use of technology and a healthy internet for everyone. This year for Safer Internet Day, Microsoft is encouraging everyone to Do 1 Thing to stay safer online, and we are encouraging people to share their stories of what they are doing for a safer internet for all. Here are some resources and things to utilize:
1) Share your promise to make a better internet: Starting today, February 11, you can share your promise to create a better Internet on a new website: Microsoft.com/SaferOnline. By doing so, or by participating in either of the social media activities below, Microsoft will make a donation to TechSoup Global – a nonprofit organization using technology to solve global problems and foster social change!
2) #Do1Thing profile picture. Download and use the #Do1Thing icon (JPG) as your social media profile picture to encourage others to join the SID movement! Show your updated profile by tweeting to the @Safer_Online channel or commenting on the Safer Online Facebook page and Microsoft will make a $50 USD donation to TechSoup Global.
3) Join our SID Twitter party. Beginning at 11:00 A.M. Pacific Time on February 11, 2014, the Microsoft @Safer_Online channel will host a #SID2014 Twitter party, and everyone’s invited! There are three ways to win prizes: participating in the party, answering the "creative question," and decoding our SID phrase. Read the official rules for details.
