How to detect SPN (Service Principal Name) related problems or mismatch on SQL Servers .
Solution :
There is a very handy and easy to use tool available from Microsoft which I am using nearly daily if I hit SPN’s related event logs or error logs on SQL or other Servers. Once tool has been installed on the related SQL Server you need to go to the installation path because the tool unfortunately doesn’t create a shortcut on to the Desktop or the Start Menu .
Basically double click the executable and type the server name. There is no need to type any credentials because it uses the logged on windows credentials. Once the tool detects the problematic SPN’s it will show it under the SPN tabs and if you click on Fix it will automatically set the correct SPN’s if you have the needed permissions in active directory .
