VMware now part of SVVP
As seen on The Console, VMware is now part of the SVVP. Welcome to the program!
Recently Microsoft made some significant changes to its licensing terms to reflect the increased use of virtualization in datacenters across the globe.
Earlier, back in June, Microsoft announced the SVVP or Windows Server Virtualization Validation Program:
The Server Virtualization Validation Program (SVVP) is open to any vendor who delivers a virtualization machine solution that hosts Windows Server 2008, Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 4 and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 and subsequent service packs.
Both initiatives are meant to ease the use of virtualization technology from Microsoft and other companies.
VMware and Microsoft are obviously competitors and it is great to see both companies working together on important issues. With all the press about Microsoft and VMware eating each others lunches and fighting over who has the better technology people tend to forget that VMware and Microsoft are also long time partners.
