Unable to Disable or uninstall Local Area Connection

Windows 2008 server, Windows 7,Windows Vista , Windows XP

 

**Problem

**

While trying to disable or remove the network driver may appear the error

“It is not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection maybe using one or more protocols that do not support Plug and play or it may have been initiated by another user or the system account”.

 

Solution

** **

Method1:

 

  • Boot the system in to the safe mode
  • Open the C:\windows\system32 folder
  • Rename the folder catroot2 to catroot2bak and close the screen.
  • Open the command prompt and execute the following commands one by one

                  Netsh int ip reset c:\ip.txt

                  Netsh winsock reset catalog

  • Open the Device manager and locate the network adapter. Right click the driver and select properties. Select the details Tab. Select the Device instance Id and copy the string under this patch.

  • Open the registry editor and Locate the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CURRENT CONTROLSET/Enum.
  • Select the View tab under registry editor option. Select the find option and paste the Device Instance ID. Press F3 for search. It will show the Device Driver information as shown below.

  • Delete the Folder and reboot the PC.
