UE-V Scheduled Tasks

There are two scheduled tasks for UE-V visible under Windows Task Scheduler\Task Scheduler Library\Microsoft\UE-V :

  • Settings Storage Location Status
    • Frequency/Triggers:  At login and every 30 minutes thereafter
    • Action:  C:\Program Files\Microsoft User Experience Virtualization\Agent\x64\CscTool.exe
    • Ran as:  Logged in user
  • Template Auto Update
    • Frequency/Triggers:  Daily at 3:30 AM
    • Action:  C:\Program Files\Microsoft User Experience Virtualization\Agent\x64\ApplySettingsTemplateCatalog.exe
    • Ran as:  System account

Settings Storage Location Status periodically checks the online/offline state of the machine to ensure that offline files (CSC) data is replicated. Template Auto Update checks the settings template catalog path for new or updated templates and applies them to the client machine.

In some environments, it may be required to disable Scheduled Tasks for regulatory or compliance scenarios.  If Windows Task Scheduler must be disabled, two additional actions should be taken:

  1. For the To ensure reliable replication of files, offline files should not be used for UE-V synchronization and SyncMethod should be set to NONE.  This can be accomplished by running the PowerShell command Set-UevConfiguration -SyncMethod None.  Doing so loses the other benefits of offline files.
  2. Disabling the Template Auto Update task requires that you trigger applysettingstemplatecatalog.exe manually on every client (note that, due to share permissions, this task must ran in the system context) any time you wanted to publish updated templates to client machiness.  This can be accomplished through PSExec (e.g. PSExec \computername -s "C:\Program Files\Microsoft User Experience Virtualization\Agent\x64\ApplySettingsTemplateCatalog.exe") or through ESD methods such as using as a System Center Configuration Manager Task Sequence.   As an alternative, you can also force the template synchronization by logging off and logging back in.  Clients will also re-query shared templates after a reboot.
