2.0 Before You Install

Review the following known issue before you install SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 4 (SP4).

2.1 Documentation Is Not Updated for SQL Server 2005 SP4

SQL Server 2005 Books Online and the SQL Server Help documentation have not been updated for the SP4 release, and you might find references to SP3 as the current or latest release.

2.2 How to Install Replication Components

Because SQL Server 2005 Books Online has not been updated, it provides instructions to install the replication components from the CD. However, once you upgrade SQL Server 2005 to SP2 or greater, you must install the replication components from the Add or remove programs page of Control Panel. In Windows 7, the Control Panel item is called Programs and Features.

To install SQL Server 2005 Replication Components in Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7

  1. On the computer that is running IIS, go to the Programs and Features page in Control Panel.
  2. Click Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to select it, and then click Change in the toolbar near the top of the page. The Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Maintenance dialog box opens.
  3. Select the instance that you want to include replication in, and then click Next.
  4. Select Database engine.
  5. Select Change installed components.
  6. Click Client Components, and then click Connectivity Components to install the SQL Server 2005 replication components.
