Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V: Creating and publishing a test lab configuration

A Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V test lab configuration provides general guidance for setting up a specific test lab configuration corresponding to a Test Lab Guide (TLG) on a single Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V server. Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V test lab configurations are a content type in the Test Lab Guides content set. You can create your own Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V test lab configuration and publish it in the TechNet Wiki, the TechNet Gallery, or in your own publication venue.

Note that Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V test lab configurations only describe the set of steps and procedures to host the test lab for a TLG on a Hyper-V server. They do not describe the steps for configuring products, features, technologies, or end-to-end solutions. That is the role of modular TLGs, TLG mini-modules, and test lab extensions.

End-to-end process for creating and publishing a Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V test lab configuration

  1. Determine the TLG and the resulting test lab for which you are creating a Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V test lab configuration.
  2. Outline the steps and procedures to configure the virtual and physical environment using a single Hyper-V server and physical components as needed.
  3. Begin building out the test lab hosted in Hyper-V for the desired TLG, noting when virtual components need to be added—such as virtual switches for subnets and virtual machines for computers—or configured.
  4. Construct your Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V test lab configuration article. To help with this, use the Wiki: Hosting a Test Lab with Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V Template as a starting point.   8. Publish your Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V test lab configuration. You can publish this in the TechNet Wiki (web article), the TechNet Gallery (white paper format), or in your own publication venue.
