About Lists of Windows Server Packages Updated After the Release of Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

Abstract

The idea behind the following tables is to develop and pilot an alternative form for the list of updates (or hotfixes if you will) for a particular technology, Windows role or feature. The tables are not intended to provide feature parity (or even replacement) with some of the “official” lists maintained by product documentation teams and listed below.

The following articles provide “unofficial” lists which are more technical, well-structured and provide some additional information that official lists lack (since it makes little to no sense for the most of customers). On the flip side, these lists do not include some information that is not directly related to the update process itself. E.g. whether or not a particular hotfix is required or even recommended. The idea is that given the information provided in the tables below (and reference tables linked from it) a knowledgeable individual should be able to determine the applicability himself—since he is the only one who knows his particular environment (and business objectives) end to end.

Limitations

Current Microsoft TechNet Wiki implementation features fixed column width for article pages. Due to this factor the following tables are not as verbose as they could be ideally. They provide only the essential information, which is simply the list of packages. Every package name is linked to a separate table providing detailed information about corresponding package contents, versioning and including in various updates.

For your convenience, some very basic reference information from the detailed tables (i.e. the latest update featuring given servicing branch of a particular package) is also included in the main tables (listed below).
