Cloud Distribution Point (Part-2)

In Part-2 we'll discuss about DNS configuration and client setting required for content download on client side along with content distribution to Cloud DP. 

Configuring DNS for Cloud Distribution Point

  • Log in to your Windows Azure Portal. https://portal.azure.com

  • Select Cloud Services from the menu on the left-hand side.

  • From the list of cloud services, click on the service name that represents your cloud distribution point. This will open the cloud service dashboard. On the right-hand side of the dashboard, copy the site URL information (http://9363be116716466a98d8bde9.cloudapp.net/) 

            

  • Now Open DNS Manager and in the Forward Lookup Zones, create a CName record.

  • For the alias name, enter CloudDP and for the FQDN of the target host, enter the site URL of your Windows Azure that we copied in Step 3. 

              

Configure client settings

A device or user must have Allow Access to cloud distribution points set to Yes in the client setting of Cloud Services before a device or user can access content from a cloud-based distribution point. By default, this value is set to No.

                                                          

Now, Clients will be able to download content from Cloud Distribution Point. 

**A successful content distribution to Azure DP will have following resemblance **

On Azure Portal, we can verify the content distribution under Azure Storage Account Service

                                                             

                                                           

On client side, refer to CAS.log, ContentTransferManager.log and DataTransferService.log for content download from Cloud Distribution Point.
