Install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 E-mail Router

E-mail Router Components

The router has the following components:

  • E-mail Router service
  • E-mail Router Configuration Manager
  • Rule Deployment Wizard

Supported E-mail Systems

The router works with the following e-mail systems:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, 2007, 2010 and Online
  • POP3 servers for incoming e-mail
  • SMTP Servers for outgoing e-mail

Supported Operating Systems

The router can be installed on

  • Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Windows Server 2008 or later (64-bit only)

The router does not have to be installed on the CRM server or the Exchange server though it can be.  The Rule Deployment Wizard requires the Microsoft Exchange Server Message API (MAPI) runtime libraries which can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=1004

Installation Steps

  1. Setup Page. On this page, select the Get updates for Microsoft Dynamics CRM to ensure that you have the newest installation files.
  2. License Agreement. Accept the agreement to continue setup.
  3. Install Required Components. If there are missing required components, select to install them now.
  4. Select Router Components. Select one or both of the Router Service and the Rule Deployment Wizard. The Router service option also installs the configuration manager. You do not have to use the Rule Deployment Wizard (though if you are using a forward mailbox and Exchange it will be useful to use the Rule Deployment Wizard to create the required forwarding rules).
  5. Select Install Location. Accept the default or sepcify a different directory.
  6. System Checks. This is a summary of requirements. If there are any issues, they must be resolved in order to continue setup. A common issue is that the MAPI libraries are not installed.
  7. Ready to Install. Click Install and then Finish.

Configure the Router

Now that the router is installed you must the Configuration Manager to configure the router.
