Windows 7: Using SmartCards via RDP connection

Due to the need to work from home, many users have a need to use the Windows 7 remote desktop using smart cards, tokens, keys for signing any documents.

Symptoms:

When you try to connect using a smart card on a remote Windows 10 machine, the following problem occurs:

The Microsoft Smart Card Resource Manager is not running.

WaitForSingleObject: Service is in an unknown state.

*CertUtil: -SCInfo command FAILED: 0x80070102 (WIN32/HTTP: 258) CertUtil: The wait operation timed out.*

Solution:

1. Please read the following article - Smart card redirection in remote sessions fails in a Windows 7 SP1-based RDP 8.1 client

2. If the first didn't help, then try to enable RDP8.0 support in the local group policy (gpedit.msc) and reboot the machine at the end so that the changes take effect:

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment -> Enable Remote Desktop Protocol 8.0

It is also necessary in the Connections\Select RDP transport protocols -> Enabled, Use Both UDP and TCP
