How to Assign the Fallback Status Point to Configuration Manager Client Computers

Configuration Manager 2007 clients can be assigned a fallback status point in the following ways:

If a fallback status point site system role is installed in a site, and you are using client push installation, the site's fallback status point will be automatically assigned during the client push installation.
If a fallback status point site system role is installed in a site and the site is publishing to Active Directory Domain Services, running CCMSetup.exe with no command line properties will result in searching for the site's fallback status point in Active Directory. If the client belongs to the same Active Directory forest as the site server's forest, the site's fallback status point will be automatically assigned during client installation.
CCMSetup.exe is run manually, specifying a client.msi property to directly assign a fallback status point to a client.

This method is required if you are assigning an Internet-based fallback status point to clients that are managed over the Internet, or if you want to assign a fallback status point that is outside the client's assigned site.

Although more than one fallback status point can be installed in a site, clients can be assigned to use only one.

Use the following procedure to manually assign a fallback status point to Configuration Manager clients.

To manually assign a fallback status point to clients:

Use the client.msi option FSP*=<server>* with CCMSetup.exe command line options. You can use a short name to specify the server parameter, or a fully qualified domain name, or an IP address.
- Example 1: CCMSetup.exe SMSSITECODE=A01 FSP=server1
- Example 2: CCMSetup.exe SMSSITECODE=A01 FSP=server1.contoso.com
- Example 3: CCMSetup.exe SMSSITECODE=A01 FSP=10.10.0.15
