Working with Delegate Access in Exchange 2010

Last modified: October 19, 2009

Applies to: Exchange Server 2007 | Exchange Server 2010

This section contains information about how to use Exchange Web Services (EWS) to manage delegate access. In Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, you can enable delegate access to items based on folder-level permissions that are set by using the delegate management operations. Users who have owner rights on a shared mailbox can open the mailbox and act as the owner. Delegates can do the following:

  • Access the mailbox of a principal and perform search, create, delete, update, and copy operations.

  • Create and send meeting messages on behalf of the principal.

  • Receive meeting messages that are forwarded by the principal and respond to them for the principal.

  • Create notification subscriptions on folders in the mailbox of the principal.

Note

Exchange Web Services can only allow delegate access if both the principal's mailbox and the delegate's mailbox are on a computer that is running Exchange 2010.
