Creating a composition

After you've added images to your Deep Zoom Composer project in the Import workspace, you can start creating a composition in the Compose workspace. A composition consists of one or more images or hotspots that are positioned, arranged, ordered, and proportionally resized according to your specifications.

Deep Zoom Composer provides some additional options, such as automatically laying out your images and hotspots into a grid and creating a panoramic photo using stitching technology.

Tip

If you want to use Microsoft Silverlight technology to arrange your exported images, you can skip the step of arranging images in the Compose workspace. For example, if you are working with hundreds or even thousands of images, you may not want to arrange all of them individually before exporting them. After adding images to your composition in the Import workspace, you can go straight to the Export workspace to export your images as a collection. Artboard and toolbar

The Compose workspace provides you with the artboard, a design area where you create and edit your compositions. On the artboard, you can position and arrange images and hotspots, and you can use the toolbar to select and align your images and hotspots. The keyhole navigator makes it easy to navigate your composition by moving the focus to different parts of the artboard. You can also use the Pan tool Dd409075.3024f965-97dd-4826-95b4-57cd6c24e34b(en-us,Expression.10).png (or press H) to move around in your composition on the artboard.

You can use the Zoom tool Dd409075.12a7b35e-40e4-46b2-9b55-f76ba1295b21(en-us,Expression.10).png (or press Z) on the toolbar to zoom in and out. To zoom in, click ZoomDd409075.12a7b35e-40e4-46b2-9b55-f76ba1295b21(en-us,Expression.10).png, and then click anywhere in your composition. To zoom out, click ZoomDd409075.12a7b35e-40e4-46b2-9b55-f76ba1295b21(en-us,Expression.10).png, and then hold ALT and click anywhere in your composition.

Images panel

The Images panel displays an image gallery containing all the images and hotspots imported into the project. To begin creating your composition, drag the images and hotspots onto the artboard. Images and hotspots that are being used in a composition have a lower opacity in the Images panel, while images and hotspots that are currently not in use are opaque:

Layers panel

The Layers panel displays only the images and hotspots used in the composition. You can use the Bring forward Dd409075.d29d7579-8bac-441e-86e4-a3ca6179d050(en-us,Expression.10).png and Send backward Dd409075.3204aa35-8cb0-4f76-b6eb-6818a08e7b06(en-us,Expression.10).png buttons to change the order of the images and hotspots on the artboard. The eye icon Dd409075.3e342e41-0093-4150-afc9-309866723da0(en-us,Expression.10).png represents the visibility property set for each image and hotspot on the artboard. If the visibility property is turned off, the image or hotspot will be hidden on the artboard. This visibility setting can be set in the Layers panel.

Properties panel

In the Properties panel, you can add tags and tooltips to your images and hotspots. You can also set a minimum or maximum visibility limit for each image or hotspot.
